So far this year I’ve read 60 books, but The Motivated Brain by Gayle Gregory is already my favorite book of the year.
As an educational interpreter and a parent, I am always trying to find ways to keep kids motivated to learn. This is a great peek into the neurology of the brain. Normally it can be overwhelming to read about neurology, but this book has done a great job in breaking it down in to easy to understand language.
I liked where it explained the Yerkes-Dodson law, which sounds complicated, but it basically means that we just need to find the right challenge for our student or child. If something is too easy, the brain is not going to grow. If something is too hard, the brain just wants to shut down. So finding something that is challenging but doable can have a huge impact on the mental development of the child.
There are all kinds of great information in this book, and if you are a parent or teacher, than I would highly recommend picking it up!
